New Online Safety Training from HSI

You ask and HSI delivers! New Online Safety Training Courses are now available exclusively to approved HSI Training Centers (TCs) in the Otis store.

We've had many requests from TCs who want to take advantage of the many resources HSI has to offer beyond CPR, AED and First Aid training. With the new Online Safety Training courses, your TC can provide your customers and employees with 23 of the most popular titles from our safety training library.

All the HSI Online Safety Training courses are purchased and delivered just like the blended courses we offer, but no in-person skills evaluation is required. Upon successful completion of an online course, a Certificate of Online Training will be issued. The course is one credit per individual. Choose from courses such as:

    • Slips, Trips, and Falls (27 min.)
    • Lockout Tagout (25 min.)
    • Driver Safety (35 min.)
    • Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Prevention (54 min.)
    • Office Ergonomics (29 min.)
    • Personal Protective Equipment Fundamentals (14 min.)

Follow these steps to find the Online Safety Training courses in your Otis portal:

    • Click on STORE in the left navigation bar.
    • Select the Online Safety Training category on the left-side of the pop-up screen.
    • The Online Safety Training courses will display on the right side.

Accessible Student Books in HSI Programs

HSI recently released Student Books that are formatted to be accessible to students who need or use technologies in PDFs to navigate, search or read-aloud. Specifically, students may now:

    • Utilize a screen reader or other text-to-speech tool to hear the PDF read aloud.
    • Use navigational aids such as bookmarks, headings and table of contents to proceed throughout the PDF.
    • Locate or search descriptive text for images.

These Student Book PDFs (English only) have passed the ISO Standard 14289: PDF for Universal Access – PDF/UA.

    • HSI Adult First Aid | CPR AED
    • HSI Pediatric First Aid | CPR AED
    • HSI Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP)

All students will receive the accessible version, which is a benefit for students who use a screen reader or accessibility technology. The PDF appears the same as a typical PDF, so anyone who doesn't need the updated features will see no difference in the layout or functionality.

Instructors and Training Centers do not need to take any further action to provide this feature to students. However, an unlocked version of the PDF can be provided to any student who needs an accessible text file for a Braille printer.

    Reminder for Instructor Trainers

If you are an Instructor Trainer (IT) with HSI, please remember that you are required to conduct at least one Instructor Development Course (IDC) per year to maintain your IT status.

The IDC qualifies if you are the primary IT, or if you co-teach the course with another IT. After you conduct a qualifying IDC, HSI will automatically renew your IT status for one year at no cost.

      Friendly Reminder

The role of an IT is to instruct, coach, and mentor Instructor Candidates who are in the process of becoming Authorized HSI Instructors. The IT level should only be pursued when there is a need to create Instructors in your organization, or when conducting IDCs are part of your overall Training Center strategy.

As an IT, if you teach one qualified IDC per year, your HSI IT status will automatically renew at no cost to you.

Expired IT Status - How to Renew

If you do not conduct an IDC within one year, your annual IT term will expire.

After you lose your authorized IT status, you will need to take the following steps to requalify yourself as an authorized IT with HSI:

      • Take the Instructor Trainer Course (ITC)
      • Pay the ITC fee of $170.00
      • Comply with HSI Instructor Trainer standards, including conducting at least one IDC annually
